Divya Ramesh

Divya Ramesh is an Assistant Professor at the College of Computing and Informatics at UNC Charlotte. She is an interdisciplinary computer scientist who takes a holistic approach to designing responsible AI solutions for financially vulnerable communities. Her research on AI accountability and economic inclusion platforms has appeared in premier human-computer interaction, AI, and AI ethics venues where she has received awards. Divya’s work has directly informed Google’s research on culturally-inclusive AI and shaped policy on FinTech applications on the app stores. Divya is a 2023-24 Quad Fellow, 2024-25 Barbour Scholar, 2024 CSST Fellow, and a 2025 Science and Technology Policy Fellow of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Divya has experience communicating her research findings to broad public and policy audiences. Most notably, in 2023, she was invited to discuss the role of AI and emerging technologies in India–U.S. relations with Curtis Ried, then Chief of Staff of the US National Security Council. Divya holds a PhD in Computer Science and a Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology, and Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
